London Heathrow Airport is the United Kingdom’s largest and World’s fourth busiest airport. In terms of passenger traffic, it is Europe’s busiest and World’s second busiest airport. Currently owned and operated by the BAA, the airport serves as primary hub for British Airways, BMI and Virgin Atlantic Airways.

Heathrow Airport has 5 passenger terminals, 1 cargo terminals and two parallel runways running east-west. Terminal 1 is home to domestic flights taking off and landing at Heathrow Airport. Redesigned and developed in 2005, this terminal is expected to close operations in 2013-2014. Terminal 2, formerly called Heathrow East terminal is Heathrow’s oldest terminal. It is currently under a major reconstruction of the phase 2 and is expected to renew operations from 2019. Terminal 3 was opened to handle departure of flights to long haul routes. Terminal 4 is connected to Terminals 1, 2 and 3 and underwent renovation recently to reduce traffic congestion and enhance security. Terminal 5 is the newest airport terminal that was constructed with modern facilities.
Currently, terminal 1 serves as base for flights operated by Airlines under Star Alliance along with sine non-aligned airlines. Terminal 3 acts as base for operations of Oneworld, Virgin Atlantic, some non- aligned and members of Star Alliance that are not based in Terminal 1. Terminal 4 is home to the operations of SkyTeam and all other non-aligned Airlines. Terminal 5 is dedicated completely for British Airways. Shops, restaurants, bars, business facilities and all other amenities catering for the requirements of all types of passengers are available in all the terminals.

Heathrow Airport has a well connected transport system and is reachable by trains, buses, taxis and minicabs. Terminals 1, 2, 3 and 4 have train stations and trains operate for every 15 minutes.
